Perform search within a doc OR find a way to highlight my search terms

advanced Verity technique

I have a collection of indexed docs. None of the info is in a db at this time (and would be highly problematic).

What I am currently able to do is perform a complex search (meaning that I'm using several Verity operators in the search criteria) on the collection and get a list of ranked results. All of this works as it should.

What I need to be able to do is: once a user has clicked a link to one of the docs in the result set, then it will display the HTML file with my search terms highlighted. The big problem is that it is not acceptable to highlight all instances of the search terms, but rather only the ones which comply with the complex criteria used in the original search.

Can anyone help with this? Any thoughts on using Regular Expressions to solve this? I have not worked much with Reg Exp, so I need confirmation that this is even a viable option.

Is there a way to get Verity to re-perform the complex search on the contents of an individual document and provide links at the top of the doc to the relevant exerpts in the text? I can picture how to do this if the data were in a db, but that would be a last-resort option.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld markatri! :)

As a non-Verity user, my best suggestion is Verity support [verity.com]. Hopefully, another Verity user will do better! :)
