Does brand matter?

Now that I am all but resolved in to going to a wireless network, I have been researching routers/firewalls. There seems to be a great disparity in pricing as well as features. I have read there really isn't a need to spend more then $100 on one, is that true?

What features should the device must have?
IS WEP security a must have, or can it be added on?

Any brand/models recommendations are appreciated

Again forgive the naivety of such questions and I appreciate your help

Twp more questions, (couldn't edit the orginal post)
do you need to have the same brand router/firewall as card for laptop

Whats the difference between the USB Adapter and the card?

Thanks again.

PC World and CNet both offer articles and product reviews that should offer some insight to your questions. When they both endorse the same product it's usually a winner! :) This CNet page [computers.cnet.com] offers good basic info.
