Hi -

I am shopping for a content management system that is user friendly, stable, intuitive and cheap. (You knew there would be a catch!)

Ideally this system would allow a client to be able to edit/add sections as needed, following an overall template or xml schema.

Recommendations, anecdotes, etc greatly appreciated.

I second this inquiry. I've got a client we are building a 'medium-sized' website for. Basically it will have three or four content sections with articles, product review, how-to's. The articles need to be added, deleted, edited, by non-technical people and links to them need to automatically appear/dissapear from the appropriate section home pages. Need to maintain different access controls for different individuals and groups of individuals, have content approval, etc. The rest of the site is highly customized kind of like a city guide site where you can search for events in particular locations or find results of competitions for certain sports. We figure that portion will need to be a custom application but the article publishing seems like there should be an easy plug-and-play solution out there we can easily integrate with the rest of the site.

Any suggestions? So far Speedsite (www.speedsite.ca) is all I have found that seems to fit the bill but I just started looking.

Hi all. This topic comes up quite a bit here at Webmaster World. If you do a site search (next to the logo) for Content Management, you'll find quite a few good posts and recommendations.

Thanks for the tip. But to be honest, the search function is pretty lacking compared to the other forums I use. Is there and advanced search somewhere that will let me use complex boolean operators, specify only certain forums to search, and specify data ranges? Otherwise the results are very cumbersome to sift through.

if you ever have a problem finding content on webmasterworld using the built in SE what I sometimes do is use google site search. Works well.

here are a few threads I found....

[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]

I dont think you will find many posts about specific products because the discusions tend to be very general, Hope it is of some help though.

What helps me is to use /forumxx as part of the search. If you only wanted to search this forum, you would add "/forum23" as part of your search string. If you look up "site search" in the Webmaster Community Forum, you will find more tips.

The google toolbar is the only way to fly for me too.

Just use that "Search Site" function on the toolbar.

Well there are quite a few CMS out there, your best bet would be first analyzing your needs and then look for one most suitable for you - probably you will get it for free.

However here is one site where you can get the list of tons of CMS [cmsinfo.org...]

Hope this helps.
