I hope you are keeping well!
Can any one tell me of a good anti-spam software?
Is spamcop.net a good choice?
I am going to try and sort out my spam problem and want the most effective software without distrupting my genuine mail.
My email comes to my PC through a local isp (Eircom.net)
Should one get software for my PC side or try and stop the spam at the isp level.
Any tips, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated,
Thankyou

I just started using mailwasher (on a recommendation found in this site- Thanks Woz, I guess!) and I like it. I use it as my second string of attack.
For my first string, I use an old, no longer supported but very good CGI filter called NAGS. It is available here (or at least was the last time I looked): [nags.org...]
It is pretty darn configurable, and works behind the scenes. I love it!

The important thing is that the program does not bounce or delete any emails until you hit the "Process Mail" button. So if you make sure to check the emails and tag/untag as required before processing, then you are OK.
However, after you set your friend/black lists and filters you should be OK. I have had no problems.

<added> What Bill said!
MailWasher is simply one of many commercial packages that invents things, like the "bounce" feature which serves no purpose (except to sell more product to the naive punter) and actually contributes to e-mail abuse.
Just my 2c worth.
