Not sure if this is the right forum for this.

Has anyone heard of Byteshark?

This is a snippett from an Reuters article [reuters.com] I read.

Ken Belanger, a San Francisco entrepreneur is taking aim at the Internet search engines those companies rely on with a new software program called ByteShark -- and bracing for a backlash. The product, due out soon, is designed to help users more quickly hone in on what they're looking for by knocking out old, duplicate and unwanted Web pages and advertising, among other things.

Karla Solis, human resources manager at the city's St. Francis Hotel, had some of her colleagues review the product for her neighbor, Belanger.

"ByteShark is the TiVo of the Internet," Solis said.

What effect would a software program like this have?

I expect it will have little impact. Most Internet users aren't sopisticated enough to change their browser settings or change to a new browser. Presently, there are programs to block popups and browser settings to block images and more. None of them has had much impact on web advertising.

Also from the same article:

Advertisers are not going away. They're not going to die. They're not going to be out of business.
