At first I didn't bother to upgrade from HS4.5 to HS5, because 4.5 did exactly what I needed it to do. But now, as I mainly code XHTML, it's a bit of a hassle to add slashes etc. Spell checking has become a problem, since MS Office 2000 doesn't use the CSAPI spell checker any more. I know that HS5 is using the Sentra spell-checker engine, which is awesome.
So, everything points toward an upgrade.
But, I have a couple of questions before I upgrade.
1) Is it worth the upgrade otherwise (I mean, other than XHTML and the new spell-checker)? Any specific important changes?
2) My HomeSite is highly customised. Will I be able to transfer my toolbars, shortcuts etc to HS5? (In other words, are the UserData folders compatible?)
3) Anything else I need to think about before upgrading?
Have you been by the Homesite site forum on Macromedia's site? I would suggest you go there and see if many others are also having upgrade problems. When I last checked in July there were quite a few threads about it. They could also tell you more about its features, and if it is worth for those reasons. I would like to know what others here have to say about too though.
On the crash front... it crashes no more than any of my other stuff and it's mainly because I need to have photoshop5.5 IE and Netscape all open at the same time as it and my poor little computer does tend to give up after awhile
I also have a quite highly personalised version of it but I was installing on a new computer so really had to do most from scratch but it was very quick to do.
Anyway you have to go with your heart *grin*
