Is there are anyone here who will give me step by step help on using the FTTP system, as I have run into a bit of trouble with it.

Thanks

Okay, I'll bite. ;) What FTP client are you using?

The correct term is ftp.

Earthlink has a support page [support.earthlink.net] that has a tutorial on using ftp (with their system). Just do a search on ftp.

Alternately, if you're using ipswich's wsftp you can go to their web site and see if they have a manual. Or the web site of whatever ftp software you're using.

Generally, when you sign up with a web host, they will send you ftp information, and if not, they usually have a faq. If you don't know where to connect, and your host hasn't emailed you the information, then I suggest you contact their support desk.

WS_FTP Tutorial [ipswitch.com]

Might be a bit easier than a blind dialogue.

Specific questions are best here. ;)

Can someone give me step by step guide here and now. On my local site C:\Program Files\\WS_FTP appears but on the remote site just a \ followed by locked, pub and trend files appear. They won't let me transfer files or update my website. Can someone give me a step by step guide to get my website to how it was where I could transfer files. My email is Kaspieman@aol.com

Generally - type in at host (or maybe referred as account) your URL without http:// but the rest

type in your

username (provided by your host) or login

type in your

password (provided by your host)

FTP is normally port 21 but if a virtual host or you are a sub-account the port number should be given from your host.

those should be the only dialogue boxes to fill.

depress send (or go) and you should be there at your FTP acount.

locate directory on your hard drive (web site files)

highlight all files you wish to transfer and depress arrow pointing to right window/screen (or the FTP account view).

Note: your FTP may not actually open up on the exact root www level therefore if you don't see your site after upload this could be the problem.
