a forum useable by people with disabilities

is there a forum compatible with a text-only browser for example?

hi all!

a webmaster of a page for people with disabilities asked me to help him out. he wanted to have a forum installed and i said: hmm, maybe you'll need a special one...

so before start coding about a month to create a very own forum which is that tweaked to be easy to manage, easy to read and has an easy method to post, my question is, does anyone has experiences with forums and screenreaders or lynx (textonly)? any ideas of a forum, maybe open source, which is dedicated to such people? or own experiences with forums (that are hard to use) and you can say what a big mistake is?

any help, ideas and even small comments only will help me a lot!

You might want to fire up lynx and go looking around. Having looked at a few forums through lynx (pretty hard with all the "noise"), I would guess that a "message board" type software would be friendlier than most forums.

You might want to check out some of these good threads from a while back

-Moving towards an accessible site [webmasterworld.com]
-Building sites for the visually impaired [webmasterworld.com]
-Color-Blindness and the web [webmasterworld.com]

I cant remember the stat, but color-blindness, especially in men, is higher than most might expect.

(color) blindness aren't the major prob to eliminate. when it's fine with lynx it's fine for braille (and color blindness). i think it'll be harder for the navigation. so messageboard might be a tip, but having a long message queue and a screen-reader will be overkill.

i need a neat idea on how to structure the messages. maybe a moderated faq with user queries is an alternative. but then there would be no discussion. but for this a mailinglist might be the solution. i've to continue thinking about this issue. thanks for your help so far! ;)
