Does this Header output signify SSL support?

The header refers to SSL modules but the ISP says that SSL is not supported

My home page is on a Virtual host with an ISP. They say that currently SSL is not available on the server (although they are supposed to be adding it in the future). When I checked my home page through the Header Tool on this site I got the following information:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Fri, 22 Nov 2002 16:39:33 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.20 Sun Cobalt (Unix) mod_ssl/2.8.4 OpenSSL/0.9.6b PHP/4.1.2 mod_auth_pam_external/0.1 FrontPage/4.0.4.3 mod_perl/1.25

On the server line it mentions mod_ssl/2.8.4 and OpenSSL/0.9.6b. Does this mean that the server does indeed support SSL or is it referring to something else?

Hey bellrj,

mod_ssl/2.8.4 OpenSSL/0.9.6b

This indicates that indeed SSL is installed - mod_ssl is an SSL component. But while the server setup supports SSL and has modules installed, they may not necessarily have it implemented.

Hope this helps!

Yes, that's very helpful. Would you mind outlining what they might have to do to implement it? (feel free to be techie :-) ) Thanks!

They would need to install a server certificate for your domain (that you can buy in a variety of places). Most likely they offer this service for an additional fee, or with a more expensive hosting plan than you're currently using.
