This specification defines an XML syntax for the Resource Description Framework (RDF) as amended and clarified by the RDF Core Working Group... The syntax is updated to be specified in terms of XML, XML Namespaces, the XML Information Set with new support for XML Base. The parts of the RDF/XML syntax are explained along with examples of how they work. The formal grammar is annotated with actions for generating the arcs that form the RDF graph as defined in the RDF Concepts and Abstract Syntax Working Draft. This is done using the N-Triples RDF Graph serializing format which enables more precise recording of the mapping in a machine processable form.

From a brief glance it does look like it is both more precise and easier to understand than http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-rdf-syntax/ [w3.org], or than the previous draft of the revised syntax.

There was a worry when it was heard that they would re-introduce, the previously deprecated, use unqualified attributes, but the way it was eventually done (http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-rdf-syntax-grammar-20021108/#eventterm-attribute-URI [w3.org]) was to allow it, but to say new documents should not use it (good old fashioned Robustness Principle). There was an amount of relief about that, though I was hoping the extra awkwardness it causes (as if RDF/XML doesn't have enough) would soon be a thing of the past. Unfortunately there's just too much code out there that uses the unqualified form.

BlobFisk have you been following some of the standards initiatives regarding elements and attribute definitions?

Not really, Lorax. I've been keeping a general watch out on the major RDF updates - but not in huge detail.

There is a guy, however, I know in Dublin that studies all the update documents in incredible detail, so if there is a question you have on it I can email him and probably get a quick reply to you!

Thanks BlobFisk,
I was just curious as I occassionally want to discuss the merits of certain initiatives as they come out. The help I need is much more general at this point. Heck, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the XML playing field but there's so much to absorb.
