Hi everyone,

I have to help a client updoad some files to their server. Can anyone reccomend an extremely simple FTP client for Windows?

Preferably shareware so that I can familiarize myself with it before I teach her how to do it...

Thanks

Here's a good place to find the range of ftp clients. [dmoz.org]

There's a lot to choose from.

You could always use IE for simplicity.

That's great, but I was kind of after a reccomendation based on my criteria:

  • For a non web savvy client
  • Extremely simple
  • Preferably shareware

There is always LeechFTP, a free program that got quite a few mentions here some time ago. The author has stopped development but it is still one of the better ones available. I use it myself.

Actually, that's a point, Woz. LeechFTP is not bad.

After switching from CuteFTP I have found WS_FTP to be blindingly quick and stable, available from ipswitch.com.

The interface is not the best but thats not really required

Of the 3 cuteFTP, Leach and WS_FTP which do we think would be easiest to teach a client?

Thanks for the help ;)

I must agree with Woz. LeechFTP is one of the best Windows FTP Client for Free I know of. It's very simple to use and has many cool features. Only down side is LeechFTP developement has been discontinued. But author does say a successor is in developement called BitBeamer [bitbeamer.com] (shareware though).

Check out LeechFTP at...

Have a look at (freeware) smartftp before you decide. Has an XPee like interface which helps newbies with unfamiliar territory.
It's simple, fast, relatively bug-free.

I find the browser FTP to be ultra easy. Drag and drop.

What more does a basic FTP client need? It automatically knows if it is text or binary. My basic FTP needs are handled very well by a browser.
