Ecommerce and the Falling US Dollar

Days of currency stability appears to be over

For five years, the US dollar has been relatively table against the Canadian Dollar, and I suspect most other world currencies. Which was good, as a large part of our buisness was to the USA.

In three months the Canadian Dollar went from .65 to .70 American, and in three days to .74.

It appears that we are entering a period of currency instability.

For our company, it is making us less competive. We are a Canadian company and from the start of our Ebusiness, we have enjoyed a competive advantage. This has all evaporated. We have contacted our Canadian distributers, and have asked them to pass on the savings from their dealings with US manufactuers. Without much luck. It now appears that we will need to deal with American distributers directly, to acheive price stability.

Are there any Canadian Ebusiness people out there with the same concerns or experince.

Yup,

we are taking steps to set up relationships with manufacturers and distributors in the U.S to handle our fulfillment. We had been looking at it before the Canadian dollar took off, but the current situation pretty much sealed it.

We as Canadians had it pretty sweet for a while, but you had to figure that it wouldn't last.
