IMHO Northern Light is a great SE, targeted at a particular market it works very well. Their demographics are awesome and they have a sound business model, they *should* be around long term.

With a few tweaks to the algo [they do seem to favour very spammy/ugly pages at the moment] they could become a player, I personaly believe that they are the only SE that the Google guy's respect and maybe fear.
