What do you look for in one?

I am curious as to what you or your clients look for when choosing a web portal for their home page.

Many web portals have the same stuff: search engine or directory services, money links, weather links, etc. What sets your preference for a web portal apart from others (please no need to name specific sites).

I think this could be interesting to see.

One feature I would to see developed is a portal that remembers the last three
pages the I have visited on the site. I would like the URLs posted somewhere
on the side where I can see it them clearly.

I think what brings people to web portals is the one stop information. The portals offer mutliple links, but they also deliver live and ever changing information.

So what live information do you look for in a web portal?
