Problems with XP and Internet Explorer

No backgrounds display at all - on any site

I just reformatted, and went from Win95 to XP....

Im a webpage designer, and proper display in my IE is crucial. For some reason, the IE that came with XP is weird, and all my backgrounds on the internet are just white. No bg color, or even bg color in tables. Looks horrible! How can i change this?

Sounds very peculiar that just the backgrounds would be affected.

Have you taken a complete tour of all the settings in Tools > Internet Options?

I work for an ISP tech help desk, I have had a few callers say this before as well. Try repairing Internet Explorer, I tried this myself a couple of times and it worked (suprised me as well). But hey... dont quote me on it ;)

Uhh repair? How do i do that? I thought you could only do that with the setup file. This IE came with XP, so no setup files that i downloaded. I think ill leave the computer on all night and download IE again, amongst other things. I checked internet options, and nothing there. Did i mention the form buttons and text fields are unusually oversized? The text box im using to write this in makes scroll across the screen. My resolution is good old 800x600...

START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
scroll down and highlight Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools
click the Add/Remove button
then choose Repair

I don't think the repair option is available on XP. You actualy get to remove IE which dissables it and can the be re-enabled.

have you try to check the accessibility in internet properties? it has an option there to ignore colors on all sites.

Actually i went to accessability options in the control panel, and it had some high contrast setting on for old folks i guess... Last time i let the computer people install my OS for me! Thanks for all of the suggestions folks!

You can maybe go to control panel > add remove progs > add/remove windows components. A copy of explorer is situated in there to be removed.....and can be retrieved just like IIS. I (think) windows keeps some files compressed in c:/windows can gets them from there.

If that don't work, and you can't be bothered with the download...IMO get a computer mag, they usually throw in a trillion and one freebies, including browsers.

Thank you KingKelly for finding and reporting the fix for your problem...I was having the same exact problem, and I discovered that it was because the shortcut key to turn it on is very similar to the old Alt-PrtScrn combo. I would never have guessed on my own that what I took to be a corrupted Internet Explorer was actually a *feature* of my OS.
