Can't view source on anything (not even my web pages).

Can't right click it.

Can't select from menu bar

Not an "Options" problem!

Dumped cache and history.

Any suggestions?

Try going up to:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced>

and then clicking "Restore Defaults"

Did you delete your 'Temporary Internet Files'. This is a common problem with putting IE6 on a system that previously had a version of IE on it.

Chris.

This may be some kind of FrontPage script to prevent you from viewing source. One way around it, that I discovered, was to fire up Netscape 6.2 and view the source from there. HA!

Any time I've seen this happen, it had to do with History and/or Temporary Internet Files. Do both, then shut down, and then start up again. Not a reboot, but a shut down.

Yep. still same thing.

I suppose a good old format C: is in order because I just can't figure it out.

Fathom, that's a little harsh! I would attempt the IE "uninstall/fix errors" solution first. IE, in it's desperate attempt to remain on your PC pleads for "one last chance" before you delete it. Try unistalling IE to access the "repair" application.

You will be given three options: add features, fix IE and restore to original configuration.

Good luck!

Not so...

What about getting a real browser [opera.com] that just works?

papabaer I'm touched!

I've always thought I was a little hard on myself, thank you.

Actually, this isn't the only problem but it's the one that ticks me off the most.

I did decide to just swap drives for the weekend though, too much work.

I did go to MSN and update and the problem was gone for a few hours but was back after.

Thing are fine now (new drive).

Thanks for all the help guys.

Macguru I agree, but sorry I do prefer MS garbage.

Until someone actually starts converting the advantage online user to their browser, I prefer to see things as they do.

But point taken!

"They" almost never view source with the lobotomised mule that is IE, for the reason you brougth up, and many others.

I use almost exclusively IE for PR watch, and quality control.

For 98% of the rest, I use a browser that gets the job done, fast and simple.

That's the obvious and logical solution! It is also one that more and more users are opting for. Go Opera!

I always smile a little when people start insisting that the particular browser they use is the One And Only Browser in terms that religious fundamentalists use to promote the One And Only Truth.

I've used quite a few browsers and discovered that for me, MSIE is the most convenient and it's actually quite fast. I especially like the way its View Source function opens the file in my text editor, and I especially dislike the way that when I fire up Opera it "takes over". I have two fantastically useful buttons on the toolbar of Notepad: "View in browser" which loads the current document into MSIE, and "View in other browser" which loads it into NS4 -- the two most common browsers according to my stats. If I happen to have Opera running, both buttons load the document into Opera. Grrr.
