404's from mouseover code - need help

Sudden huge increase in 404's

I have used the following mouseover code for the last year with no problems and have not changed anything recently.

onMouseOver="window.status='http://example.com';return true" onMouseOut="window.status='';return true"

For the last couple of weeks I have suddenly started getting hundreds of 404 errors, many of which show the above piece of code like it is a file ie appended to a sub-directory in a url. The error starts at the first window.status

In about half the cases the 404 shows underscores in place of apostrophes in the code. How did the underscores get there?

Every single use of the mouseover code on a page has generated a 404. Last week it was 2 - 3 errors for every mouseover code, so far this week it is only one.

It is like a rogue spider has been through my site and had a problem with the mouseover code.

Can anyone suggest a cause for what is happening? I can't see the important 404's without wading through heaps of trash.

It does sound like a spider that's choking on the javascript instead of ignoring it.

Have you been able to resolve the IP address? Does it ask for robots.txt?

If this is the site in your profile, it all looks good. Seems to function fine for me.

Is this issue resolved or are you still getting 404's?
