Team Effort or Flyin' Solo

Another poll-like question.

Do you work on websites by yourself or do you work with a team of designers, programmers, graphic artists, photographers, etc?

For those that work on teams, do you prefer that or do you like working on a project alone?

I am curious how other web publishing operations work. I work free lance out of my home (I also have 2 other jobs). I enjoy working alone, but I wonder if I ever need to expand if I could work with another designer.

Tedster if this is off topic then blast it to a different forum...

I generally work on projects on my own. I will ask for input from some others on occasion but generally I will run solo. Granted the sites I usually build are very simple and don't take much in the way of graphics and programming.

I work on much of the sites myself, however I have excellent graphic designers, web programmers and other I can turn to in need of additional help incase I am too busy to deal with the stuff ;)

I've done both and both have merits. I prefer the team environment because then I don't have to do any graphics, I don't like doing them and, frankly, I am not very good at them either. It is better when each person can focus on their strengths, makes for a more well-rounded finished product. imho

I'm graphically challenged as well, but with enough time I can make my buttons look decent.

If I get stumped with a scripting or extra functionality issue, I head for the forums.

Got ripped off by a partner 2 years ago. Got ripped off by a programmer 1 1/2 years ago, now, like txbakers, I head for the forums and get learnin' mo' stuff when I get stuck. It ain't so difficult if you really need to do it.
Bit like learning any language, if you need it to eat, it all falls together, eventually.

though I'd dearly like to hook up with somebody good at the art side of things, I tend to limit my sales to lawyers, accountant and technical products etc to avoid my weakneses....

Everytime I try to move to the outside I run into a swarmy salesman that wants to takeover the account.

Both. At home it's all on my own (using css to make things look cool in a minimalist kind of way, I'm another one who isn't big on the graphics). At the office we have content writers and graphic designers so all I need to do is pull it all together and write the code for the functionality.

I like both styles of working for different reasons: on my own I get to do it "myyy waaay" (sorry about that, my singing is as bad as my graphics), in a team I get to focus on the stuff I enjoy most.

Most of the time I work as part of a small (2 person) team. Each of us focuses on our strengths (design, programming, etc).

i have my own sites = entirely solo,

but use a grafics person for grafics if its paid work (quicker and better)

Alone, mostly. I'm not a graphic artist either so for the one site that is actually for a small graphic design firm, they did the layout and graphics. It was a different experience, cutting up PSDs and making their vision work in HTML.

Forums are where it's at*** hundreds of teachers ready to teach.

Team, definitely. Each to his own, you know, and where I have good design sense, I am much more talented in other things - so I always have my designer handy. I usually make a mock up myself so I can code while the designer works on his thing, but when he finishes, it's 100 times better than what I could do *because it's his job*. Since he works on the design, I have time to make my product better functionally.

Solo, but there are times where a team has a definate advantage. Any individual can go through a "creativity" lag... call it writer's block if you will; it's all the same for any medium.

Groups are more dynamic as well as more resistant (not immune!) to creativity slumps. You never know where a "think" session may lead, or what sparks it may ignite. A good working "group" is pretty tough to beat.
