getting older copies of Netscape and IE?

Is anyone out there familiar with downloading older copies of Netscape and IE (ex. saving them to disk, not running the exectuable right away)?

I want to get in the habit of copying the latest browser versions to disk, so I have a backup copy of them several years from now, if I want to revert to that version.

However, I've tried downloading both Netscape and IE. Upon clicking "download," the pop-up box comes up asking "Do you want to run this program from its current location, or save to disk?" I choose "save to disk." But I'm concerned I'm not really downloading the program. When I look at the file size of the program on the Download site, it's something like 17-20 MB. However, the resulting .exe file I save to my hard drive is less than 1 MB.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Here is another good resource for finding Browsers...

Chuck Upsdell Browser News [upsdell.com]

Be sure to follow the links to other browser pages for more information.

I'm worried about installing earlier versions of IE along with the recent ones. I know Netscape can support two versions, but every time I try to mess with my IE I regret it later.

Is it possible to run earlier versions of IE along with the current installation?

You CANNOT run multiple versions of IE on the same computer.

Just get some old $50 computer to load older IE versions.

If someone is using old IE, they probably have a $50 computer anyway.

You can run as many versions of IE you like on some computers. For instance, I run as many Windows versions I like to on a Mac. Each of those windows versions have a different version of IE and other browsers installed. It all runs from the same box, on the same screen, on different windows.

Omni- The first browser was called WorldWideWeb. You can read about it here [w3.org].

Macguru- Nice way of doing things.
