Quicktime and MSIE

Quicktime clips work okay in Netscape, but not in MSIE *most* of the time

So, I had this simple task. Of all places, on my own personal site, I just wanted to include Quicktime .mov clips among the pictures (since my camera takes them). I thought that shouldn't be too tough.

The problem is that, though Netscape (as I've tested so far) has shown the clips just fine, MSIE shows a broken Quicktime icon most of the time. And, for some reason, it isn't consistent. Two computers, with the same version and build of MSIE and the same version of Quicktime had two different results. It's averaging around one MSIE seeing it for every 5 that don't.

I checked mime types, tried a ton of variations of code, looked at stuff that worked, and still nothing. I welcome any advice on this. I put an example page at test.htm on the site in my profile.

Thanks :)

Hi -
I had a quick fiddle with your code and it produces the broken icon on my machine with IE6.
When I put the absolute path in the code to [dotconquer.com...] it worked.

Thanks, but I changed it to absolute and it still doesn't work for my browser. Hmm...

Do you use a later version than Windows 98?
What about your browser version?

Microsoft pulled Quicktime support for nearly a year now...

I'm trying it on two computers. Both have MSIE 6. One is XP Pro and the other is 2k Pro. Neither can see it.

I know about the lack of support for Quicktime since IE 5.5 - that's why I'm using the embed tag. I can also see pages using identical code (on a different server) just fine and I can view the pages local just fine.

Could it have anything to do with the version of Quicktime loaded on the server itself? I'm not sure how that would make a difference, but it might.

Thank :)
