The thread on search engines below seemed a bit intimidating; innaccurate searches and hefty man hours. I have never built a search engine but I need to.

I'm looking for intelligent tutorials, articles or anything that could teach the language with beginners in mind. Then I could go back to the thread below and figure out what everyone is talking about.

I am interested in engines that search e-commerce sites and articles in terms of relevance. How to create and implement them mainly.

Also, would anyone consider an easy-to-install ::type search engine (i.e [xav.com...] Or heard anything about that...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed the search engine world link. That would be a good place to start right?

By the way the link above should probably be:
[xav.com...]

Madcat,

I recommend that URL you posted, I run two of them on my site.

It doesnt scale very well (above 10000 URL's) though you have ample admin options to create more space.

Its definetely worth a shot, because its free until youre happy with it

searchengineworld is a good place to start, purely because it is written by Brett_Tabke, who administrates these forums, and certainly knows what he is talking about.

searchenginewatch is also quite a popular one

hope this helps, and welcome to webmaster world :)
