Excellent news.

Change Log:

  • MathML is now enabled by default on those platforms that support it,
  • The JavaScript debugger, (aka Venkman) can now profile JavaScript in web content and browser chrome.
  • Mozilla now supports TrueType fonts on Unix using the FreeType2 library.
  • Greatly improved View-> Page Info dialog.
  • Mozilla now supports SOAP.
  • You now have the option of installing plugins in your Mozilla user directory ($HOME/.mozilla/plugins on Unix).
  • Mozilla has a new Page Setup dialog and the Print Preview window now has a toolbar.
  • Mozilla on Microsoft Windows now has a full screen mode.
  • Speed improvements for the Sparc Solaris build.
  • The BeOS port now supports SSL and has gfx speed improvements.
  • Mozilla has a new method for disabling popup and popunder windows.
  • Mozilla's zlib library contins the fix for the zlib vulnerability. Note that some builds such as the Red Hat RPMs use the sytem zlib library and you will need to update this library separately. See the Red Hat Linux Errata Advisory.
  • The recycled mail compose window was turned on by default which greatly improves new message and reply performance.
  • A new mail notification appears in the Windows System tray.
  • Mozilla now supports the use of socks proxies for mailnews.
  • LDAP directories appear in the address book.
  • The address book now has an advanced search dialog.
  • IMAP Shared Folders is finished with the exception of being able to click on an imap url to subscribe to one.
  • The delete key now toggles the deleted state for the IMAP delete model.
  • Improvements to the MailNews UI when reading signed and encrypted S/Mime messages.

I know I've said it before, but Mozilla just keeps getting better and better. This is a very nice browser. It renders very fast, the gui also seems more nimble than the last release.

Note to Linux users, it is actually loading pages faster than Galeon (v 1.1.3 which uses Gecko from 0.9.8), I guess they stepped up the rendering speed of Gecko

What perfect timing for mozilla to make a come back. With the pending changes at AOL, MS's security problems along with the voice of this community and others like it, there could be a major shakeup in the next six months.

The speed of mozilla is very impressive. I've tested various sites that utilize tables for content presentation and those using css for presentation. The support for CSS1 and CSS2 seems to be stable.

Do you think they can pull it off? Will mozilla be able to sink its teeth into market share? If the AOL rumor turns to fact, then we have history in the making and we'll all be a part of it.

Hey, how come Opera is not being considered in all of this?

Good luck to Mozilla, although I don't think it is going to make it beyond its enthusiasts and AOL users if in fact AOL does go with Mozilla and not netscrape.

I don't know. I haven't found anything better than IE for personal use since Netscape started to go downhill a few years ago, but Mozilla .9.8 just blew me away. I haven't been able to get a connection for .9.9 but that sounds real good, too. If people get to the point of trying it, I think quite a few are going to like it.

Lovely :)

The skins/themes are working now as well - very like winamp - simple and quick.

I got .9.9 this morning. Haven't discovered the differences between that and .9.8 yet. I do have one question if anyone happens to know the answer. I haven't gotten the new mail notification in the Windows system tray. Could that have something to do with the fact that I use IMAP rather than POP or do you have to enable that somewhere I haven't been able to find?
