3D Technology that works?

There were numerous attempts to create 3D sites and the media hype far outweighes the reality of those VRML nightmares. Remember those sites? Like driving on too many valium?

X3D is the new technology that wants to make 3D a viable web solution.

Faster connections and XML are the basis for the technology drive and it may work.

I was wondering if anyone out there really wants to visit 3D sites? Hardcore surfers and 'net professionals seem to shun Flash so is there a market for 3D sites? Especially if the site itself isn't a game or a "chat community"?

I just grabbed some source and tagsets, still not sure why but 3D sounds intriguing.

Still too soon I think. Unitl better stuff is built into the browsers, there is too much overhead involved. Flash continues to do much of what x3d promises.
