Would someone please remind me of the acceptable word amount for the site description. I'm thinking it's 25 but also realize that some serps like AV shorten it off with a trailing... So maybe I should be thinking number of characters?

Yes, definitely count characters (and spaces) rather than words. Here's a related discussion: [webmasterworld.com...]

I agree with the linked thread - 150 to 200 chars, 250 as an upper limit. But I've also seen a trend toward shorter and shorter truncations of the description (saving bandwidth?) So on key pages, I take a look at what happens if the description gets chopped at at 80 characters or 100 characters. I've seen some rather confusing and even embarrasing snippets for sites who didn't consider this.
