Hi again

Every time I try to change permissions to 777 for one .cgi file, Smart FTP shows me the following message

_vti_cnf: Operation not permitted

How can I manage to change permisions to that file??

Thanks for the Help

Do you really need 777? Try 755, or what is suggested by the cgi script. You may want to a little reading on permissions. I would guess your host wants a little security.

Yep... 755 is all you need.

You might check the .htaccess and other config files in your root directory... some hosts let you do a lot of re-configuring, others don't.

Nothing friends.

I can't even delete these files. I really need to!!

Operation is not Permitted. I can't do any changes on these files.

Dear friends again.

I contacted my server adminisrator and he said that I should use my FTP to change permissions and delete files and it is nothing he could do.

Why that?

I still can not change permissions to those files or delete them. Please.. If you know something (even if you think it is wrong) throw it here. The problem became a big headache to me.

The "_vti_cnf" means that you have front page server extensions installed. From my experience, if FPSE are installed, you cannot use an FTP program to change permissions, nor can you use telnet. I would ask your administrator to disable FPSE for your site. I've run into this problem and here is how I fixed it. I saved all the stuff from my site onto my computer. Then had my administrator delete the site, then re-create it, not installing FPSE. Then I FTP everything back where it was. Then you should be able to edit, delete, change permissions, whatever you need to do.

Thanks friend Squalle.

I actually still have the problem with FP extensions. The _vti_cnf files can not get deleted.

Since then I decided to move to the more humane Dreamweaver 4.

Thanks anyway.

sounds to me like the permissions (or ownership) of the directory (or the one above) are preventing you from adjusting the permissions on the files.

New_Alex, You cannot delete the folders with an FTP program, but your administrator should be able to delete the site. If not, maybe it would be in your best interest to find another place to host your site. For some reason, the server extentions do not get along with and FTP program. Once the server extentions are gone, so will your problem.

Best of luck!
