What forums? phpBB or UBB?

What do you recommend?

I was wondering whether UBB v6 worths the money over the free phpBB forums. Which is more trouble free?

What is your opinion. Shall I go for the UBB v6 from "infopop"?

If I were to replace this software, I would go with VBB. Price, power, and performance can't be beat.

Well, i'd recommend a forum that uses a database. You have a lot more flexibility with the data then. You can make for example a "interesting threads top 10" like the frontpage of webmasterworld. The days of the flat file are so numbered ;-)

The new phpBB2 forum is great. It is still in its RC stage (its at RC 2 at the moment). I have it on a "live" site at the moment, and it runs fine. Very easy to use and install, quick to customise, looks good, frendly and enthusiastic customer base, and its FREE! What more do you want? Check out the phpBB2 at sourceforge.net if you haven't already.

And flat files aren't alowed on many hosting packages, php plus mySQL use much less CPU.

I'd highly recommend phpBB too, the current RC for version 2 works like a dream and it looks awesome to boot.

It's easily customisable using the template feature and just about any question you can think of about installing or customising has already been answered on their support forum.

I'm running two of their boards and haven't had a single problem and it costs nada!

A classy, well designed app IMHO.
