Ok I made an error saying that I wanted to make multiple pop ups appear. The site I have is linked to another sister site owned by a relative!

We both want to link to each other - via a pop up that appears when exiting either site. This pop up will not force surfers into millions of other pop ups and will close AS SOON AS it is tried to be closed.

Since the two sites are similar it is likely that this will enhance the surfers experince.

But why put the link in a pop-up window? It's harder to get a spider to see that link, and isn't it much better to "pitch" the link directly, by offering some good copy about the sister site, and letting people choose the site if they are interested?

When a visitor has already decided to leave, they already have another purpose in mind. For that reason alone, they are not likely to be interested in anything your site still wants to say to them.

But by feeding them the information about your sister site while they are still reading within the regular flow of information on your site, you are pitching the link while you still have their interest.

That being said, if you're still set on popping up a last minute pitch, try using onUnload in the BODY tag.
