Know a good website hosting company?

Our website is currently hosted with Verio but they charge a ridiculous amount to get an SSL so I want to move to a company who provides an SSL cheaply and who have good bandwith etc. I don't know very much about servers and hosting companies and therefore don't know how to make a good choice. Somebody suggested PowWeb to me. Any other recommendations or opinions? Many thanks.

Can't say too much but give webfusion.co.uk a wide berth.

I have had great expierences with www.datapipe.com . I have been with them for two years now. Packages are a few more pennies but worth it in my mind. They list all of there packages on line.

Thanks for your advice everyone. Your list of criteria, MacGuru, is particularly helpful.

I have no idea how many MB our website is and how many gigabytes we would need to transfer/month. I regularly update the site but at present it only has 10 pages (will eventually have 12). How many MB and gigabytes per month do you think we would need?

Do you really think it is necessary to have phone support from my area? (I am in Maui so that would limit my choice).

I'm not sure what 'backbone connection' means - does that refer to bandwidth?

Can you tell me what PERL and SSI are? I don't know if I will need them in the future.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
