PHP question from newbie

Is mailing form management as easy as it looks?

I have just begun learning a little PHP, and see how incredibly easy it is to manage a mailing form with a few simple lines of PHP. Is there a catch? I have always used a canned CGI (in perl) gleaned from a resources site, but PHP looks soooo much easier. Any reason *not* to use PHP?

no reason not to use it as far as I know, it really is that easy.

So there are no techical issues or security issues that I'm missing?

It just seems so much incredibly easier with PHP that I wonder why everyone seems to use CGI scripts for this sort of thing??

I don't really know what you mean by tech issues but I haven't run into any major problems yet.
