folks.. how do these people make ca$h with coupon codes?
I'm pretty confused..

seems somehow they send you to amazon by a semi blind link with their affilate id somewhere?

like this:
www.site.com/go.php?id=1

somewhere in that there is a affilate ID which is posted to amazon with the coupon code as well?

I'm really confused as to how this is done, anyone care to explain to a slow person such as myself>

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

My guess, the page checks $id and retrieves the aff. id from the db and redirects the browser to whatever aff. site..

ok...

but I'm a bit confused..

if you look at some of the coupon codes sites out there..
try google.com amazon coupons

if you click on the sites links.. once it opens at amazon, i do not see the affilate ID in the URL..

I wish someone who does this could explain the secret :)

nice to meet you as well!

the thing is they are hiding it so that people can't grab their aff id.

My guess is that Nick is right. The site in question uses the go.php file to build the proper link with the aff id and then fires it up into the location bar and sends you there.

As far as how the site they have linked to deals with id, I don't know but I doubt that these affiliates are losing the referral. I imagine that amazon, or whoever, gets the id out of the referrer and then keeps track of it via sessions or cookies so it knows where you came from.
