Hi,

I develop a site for a company and have started an affiliate program... quite a simple one where i'm spending ages reading all through the logs each day to pick up the tracking codes, however luckily the site gets only about 3000 unique vis. per day...

We've contacted sites relevant to ours asking them to join our site but have had little sucess...

any other good methods of promoting an affiliate program? (other than joining the big affiliate marketing progs?)

Same way as asking for reciprocal links...a carefully drafted email or letter to related businesses?

Id would find sites that would be make good affiliates and pitch them in any way you can.

...and when you finish that, contact the affiliate crackheads who don't give a rats behind if they are related or not. If it coverts & pays they will promote it.

I'm sure there are quite a few folks here who might be interested in promoting your affiliate program, but that line above scares me. Most folks who are serious about promoting/optimizing for an affiliate program want a solid tracking/stats program in place where sales are reported in real or close to real time and don't want to rely on a webmaster to have to scan logs looking for affiliate ids. I'm sure your system works fine as we speak but if you were to pick up a couple of SEOs who hang here, you may be combing through 10 times as many unique vis. per day...

Hi roscoepico

Yes, i understand the workings of our program would scare users off...

We typically only get upto 10 new users a day so it isnt too hard to track, but yes I can appreciate the views of the way we have gone about operating the programme...

our problem with purchasing a full system, is that the company who wrote our auction based site won't support us if we used affiliate software and want £50k to make their own version - way over my budget!

ps we're also in a very 'niche' area - top of google et all etc for our keywords
