I've read about quite a few online agencies that specialise in pop unders and claim to pay as much as $5-$8 CPM to publishers.

Would anyone with first hand experience, be able to eloborate on this.

Thanks!

As with all advertising it depends. Obviously if you are looking at untargeted advertising which has been bought in bulk and sold to a huge bunch of sites (such as burst would do) then there would be a tiny CPM. However a brand buy where say a particular advertiser would want to buy space on just your site would command a higher CPM, going up to $20-30CPM.

A lot has to do with your target audience and how valuable they are to advertisers. A free MP3 site wouldn't be that intersting however something targetting ABC1's in a single region would be.

I don't do pops, but I frequently hear the the $5-8 offer made by XYZ ad broker didn't turn out as expected, the effective CPM usually coming in at less than $1.

The first step would be to find out exactly when you'll be credited with the impression. Some reguire a 2nd click, etc.

I run both fast clicks and burst on my chef site ... I use this as "seed money" for my other online ventures. My site averages about 3200 visitors daily which translates into about $250 monthly with both burst and fastclicks combined.

Please note that I have not been able to run any personal ads targeted to my site simply because I have not had enough survey results (you need at least 200 ...I have 190 or so) however this should change in November and my earnings should increase as well.

Many people bash the pop ups and I will be the first to agree that they are annoying. However, when you run an information based website where as most of your visitors COME to the site looking for info this is about the best way to make any money.

And yes I offer plenty of cooking books and tools through affiliate programs ....these people are at my site for the FREE info .... info that took me years to learn. I feel this pop up trade for my content is a fair exchange.

If anyone is intrested in pop up companies sticky mail me and I will help you get started quickly to earning a few bucks.

As for cpm price ....burst= about $1.50 per average and fastclicks pays about $3.00 per average.

Hope this helps,

Chef Brian

Thanks! Very useful insights.

Your figures were very helpful, Chef Brian. I just signed up with Valueclick a week ago. All they seem to show is my own banners tho'.
