I have a site (url in profile, but thats probably unimportant) that sends out email notifications to users of specific events. The user base is well defined, but not niche (webmasters, mainly bloggers). The email notification thing is a small part of the site, but nonetheless I was wondering if appending (or prepending) text ads would work in terms of advertising sales. Has anyone tried something like this? How would you recommend going about getting sponsors? The user count is high enough to actually have some quantity going as well.

I subscribe to a newsletter that has paid advertising in it (it's books or pamphlets related to the subject). Not a largescale op but it's probably doing some $.

Then there are the heavyweights, like zdnet and nytimes newsletters, that are chock full of advertisers. It's a good idea.

Maybe approach seo software folks, pc sellers, HOSTING COMPANIES... seems like there are a wholed bunch of possible entrepeneurs who could take a shine to such an audience.

In magazine advertising, you gotta get in there and sell... as opposed to joining an affiliate program.

I am of the opinion that this is one of those babies you gotta bring into the world on your own. But that in the long run may be more profitable.
