If you have a website based on a free service and your income has come from adds, what is the best way?

Right now I have affiliate banners, but there must be another more secure way to get a good income from a free service.

Like paid per impression, but I have seen they just pay max. 3$ per 1000. so what are there else of options out there, because the visitors realy like the page, so I dont whant to let them down.

IMO, the best way is to sell ad space directly to sponsors that have a product or service that dovetails with the focus or theme of your site. On the downside, it's hard to do, requiring new skills. It can also be very slow to get off the ground. The upside is that, once established, it's a very stable revenue stream.

Hi zeus, get a product to sell - sell your own product that's what I say.

It's easier said than done, I had the same problems as you, I have a free site and I was struggling to earn enough from advertisers to cover operating costs.

I decided that I needed a product, a product that was in theme with my site and a product that my users would be interested in.

It was hard to determine a product for my site, so I turned something that I used to give away for free into a product.

I haven't looked back since, without it my site would have went bust without a doubt.

Now I have the money to put back into my site to improve it further. I don't make much by comparison to other sites but I make enough to run the site with a little to spare.

I can see a lot of free based sites struggling because their only income is via advertising.

Selling your own product is so much more challenging then trying to sell other peoples products - and more rewarding too.

Cheers,

Stickymaster.

Stickymaster you are right about selling stuff on the net, I had thought about it but the only thing that maybe would be interesting is some kind of programs and I am not a expert in that. I have thought about those paid per impression again and will now look into it see if those company is serious, because I do have alot of visits.

P.s great web site you have.
