CPC and CPM, counted daily or monthly?

I have not been able to find out how unique hits are counted for CPC and CPM. I thought that this was calculated on a daily basis. For example, if someone clicks on a banner ad (for CPC) on a certain day, and then clicks the same ad the next day, is this counted as one or two?

It depends really on who the banner owner is.

CPC - Some third party ad servers say you only get paid for unique clicks every 24 hours, while some will pay you for all clicks

CPM - You are paid for every page view, regardless of who views it and how many they view

Okay, that sounds good to me. After reading a lot of posts talking about average unique clicks a month I thought that ad networks measure this by the month.

CPM deals with page views and not clicks, but it can have limitations, too. Frequency caps can limit the number of times a visitor views a particular advertisement or ad campaign.

Beware of thinking you can get good money from ads. Some ad networks pay about $.40 CPM and your lucky if they can fill 50% of your inventory

Im going to try looking towards something like the webmasterworld/paypal method

What exactly do you mean by inventory? Are you refering to the fact that ad networks may only supply 50% payable ads?

By the way, thanks a lot for the info.

If you devote a place on your page for an advertisement then your effectively selling that space, this is your inventory

The size of your inventory depends on how many uniques/page views you get

Most important thing is, if you can identify your target market, and back that up with stats, then you can make respectable money from ads. Finding people fill your inventory is HARD.

You can get third party companies to provide you with numerous advertising campaigns, where they act as the middle man, but the money is not that good and the advertisements are run of network, meaning they are generally untargetted > meaning less money > less effective all round

But hopefully, if your site is unique and popular, you can woo advertisers with your "inventory" :)
