I ran across a NY Times article for Monday that MSN will unveil it's ad system today and posted the article in MSN Search forum.

In that article, MSN reveals some their long range goal which include selling ads on other websites. Sounds like more competition for Adsense/YPN?

... Microsoft also expects to use its new system to sell ads on other Web sites, just as Yahoo and Google do with their systems...

... He (Mehdi) said that once Microsoft had a large number of advertisers and had refined its ad placement formulas, it would be able to compete with Google and Yahoo to sell ads on other Web sites because it would be able to offer higher ad revenue.

NY Times Article [nytimes.com]

My first thought is this won't be rolled out for up to a year, and then it will be more exclusive and in beta for awhile.

If MSN and YPN raise the bar on quality of websites accepted into the program, it could force Adsense to follow which will see a drop in the scrapers and Potemkin websites that have proliferated and profited from contextual advertising over the last year.

It seems to me that scrapers can only benefit from more competition in the contextual ad marketplace. Publishers will be in even higher demand than ever because the existing pool will be split up even further.

You have to get accepted into the program and then maintain it. MSN and YPN can differentiate themselves to advertisers by promising a higher quality of publishers which results in better leads.

If you have not received an invitation to try MSN adCenter, please check back at a later time. MSN adCenter will be available for public use in the near future.

Any members here who are doing the 'testing', and who can invite me?
