I've been trying everything to do with affiliate marketing and I just can't seem to make enough money from it.

I follow the advice in books - it's crap and doesn't work

The only thing I have hope in is this SBI site I'm building, because it sorts all that SEO crap out for you behind the scenes.

I'm really sick of trying method after method and being dissapointed.

How are people making money with PPC?! I jsut can't understand it, I've built mini sites that I'm convinced will convert when I build them, but NOTHING.

I'm absolutely fed up with trying to make money from this. What am I doing wrong!?

Frustrates the hell out of you doesn't it?

It can take a long time to find a program that does work for you. It is a very lucky affiliate who finds a profitable program straight away. I have been at this for nearly 4 years I expect and I have only recently seen the light.

It takes work, and lots of it.

Sure you can throw up a landing page in 5 minutes and point PPC traffic at it but if the sales pitch doesn't cut it then people won't buy. It takes a lot of thought to prepare profit making landing pages.

I must stress, affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick scheme, it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of learning to become successful.

How do people make money from PPC?

By very carefully targetting their keywords.

A little tip: Have you ever thought about sending your PPC traffic direct to the merchant via your affiliate link and letting the merchants sales pitch do the work for you?

I have been disheartened over and again but you must keep going because eventually the rewards will outweigh the work. You must read and learn, trial and error, test test test. You will learn a lot from your 'failures' and will eventually do something that works.

All of this takes time and skill which must be learned,
like doctors and accountants and so on.

Another tip: (wow 2 in one post)Diversify!

You will find a lot of great and helpful clues here at WebmasterWorld but some of it will be quite cryptic. Thisnk outside the box and you will succeed.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld BTW

Don't make a sales pitch for a product you don't sell. If you're actually generating traffic, don't try to presell your customers -- that is the advertisers job. Just develop a quality site that will attract the right kind of visitors, and get them to go where you want them to go. If you send a few thousand visitors and don't see any sales, try a different program.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is building a site to convert. Build a site that people will want to come to -- then you have options.

Thankyou both for your wise words.

I suppose I have only really been involved with AM properly for a year or so on and off. I'm very impatient is all :)

Ska, you mentioned not creating a landing page - it's funny you should mention that because that's something I'm trying now - just sending targeted traffic to the merchant.

ncreegan - I'm building a content rich site using SBI at the moment giving free guitar lessons so I think from what you say I should be on the right track.

I'll keep trying anyway. I'm determined to succeed with this damn thing if it kills me.

Free guitar lessons.

Although I don't think we should get into specifics there are a large number of items that you could push from your site.

eg strings, picks, cases and big ticket items like guitars themselves. There are amps and leads and straps and so much more. sounds like a real bad dmoz description ;oP

Anyway, you get the idea and I can vouch that there are some good musical based aff progs out there, you will just have to go out there and find them ;oP

Well yeh, I always knew once I have the site established and free traffic that monetizing will be easier.

It will take me another year before I'm earning anything decent though, but I'm only 21 so I guess I'm ahead of most people my age (that's not what it's about though....:)

add adsense in the end after the affiliate link. If the visitor does not click on your affiliate link he may click on the adsense ad. This could salvage your advertising cost initially.
