Questions about Tribal Fusion ad. network

CPM rates?

Looking to use them on a UK movie portal.

May I ask what kind of CPM rates they pay out? There is no indication given of this anywhere I've looked. Is there anywhere we can see a list of their advertisers?

Do Tribal Fusion themselves pick which ads are shown on our site based on geography, category etc.? Or, like other ad networks, do we have to choose the advertisers ourselves?

Also, are their pop-ups/unders able to get around blockers?

1Lit,

You do not select advertisers with TF. You can deselct certain ones, but not in the way you would stop a campaign in say Fast Click. You can also block certain categories like tobacco or flashing.

Their CPM is usually higher than any other non-targeted ad-network...at least that I have used.

They do have pops, but not many and certainly not many for the UK. I have found they serve about 1/10th of what Fast Click or Casale would server each day.

Their UK ad inventory is roughly similar to Burst, with likes of Sky, car makers, etc. Pretty high quality.

I think it depends on your site and what category they put you in, but we were looking at about 1.25$ CPM last month and are hovering between 1$ to 1.10 so far in September.

I have indeed yet to find an adnetwork with excellent rates like these, besides one or two that offer specially negotiated guaranteed rates for a set amount of traffic, while TF picks up a good amount of my traffic too which really puts them in a class of their own.

Started added their code to our pages. However, all we are seeing is tacky Smiley ads, screensaver, free ipod and 'you have received an email' ones.

Don't like them. Difficult decision however, as CPM rate is very good.

Do Tribal Fusion have brand name advertisers? If all we're going to do is see 'You're our 1,000,000th visitor and have won $1000' I think we'll give them a miss. No matter how good the CPM, such ads devalue our site.

Depends on the category you are in, really. I see quite a bit of that stuff, but there is also a lot of ESPN, Napster, Circuit City, and others.

You aren't the first one I've seen mention something like this, but I just don't understand why people care about getting the smilies and other stupid banners if they are pulling in 3-4 times the CPM that other adnetworks bring in.

We actually did a survey of all of our registered users on the site, asking them what they thought about our banners, how often they find themselves clicking a little bit about demograhpics and other stuff, and the overwhelming response from over 50% of our users was something like: "what ads?" or "I never really pay attention to them". Others said stuff like: "whatever it takes to keep the site free" or "I could care less...advertising is a part of the internet, they are easy to ignore".

Now we understand that those are our most loyal viewers, but I never have heard of anyone saying "I'm not visiting your site until you take those smilies down" or something like that. People just don't seem to care, so why would I take a 50-70% cut of my hard earned revenue so people can shop at Amazon or Radio Shack? Makes no sense to me.

I agree with you... to a degree. As webmasters/businessmen our job is to take money and not be obsessed about the quality of our advertisers. So, I don't mind poor quality ads or ads I might have a personal disliking to (hell, I even applied to join the Republican Party's revenue-generating affiliate program even though I can't stand those neo-cons, that's how low I can get.)

But I do worry when my advertisers LIE and DECEIVE... because it devalues my site and my customer's opinion of my business.

Don't you think it's immoral to hit almost every customer with a pop-under saying 'Congratulations, you're our 1,000,000th visitor - phone XYZ to claim your prize!' and the phone number is a Premium Rate one?

Also those screensaver/smilie advertisers download a lot of adware rubbish alongside their free software. And that adware is almost impossible to get off your PC when it's embedded itself.

I've heard that the quality of advertisers improves over time, so I'll hang on for a couple of weeks. I've been accepted by a number of UK ad networks and, having added their code to our site I see high quality ads from cell phone companies and broadband providers etc. so if I don't start seeing quality advertisers from TF I'll use the other ad networks.
