I've received an official looking e-mail from CJ asking me to join the eBay affiliate program. Is this on the up and up? Does CJ really do marketing for different affiliate programs? My first reaction was that it was some sort of phishing e-mail, but I thought I'd check here.

Not that I have any intention of joining eBay either way.

I've had invitations to promote ebay.co.uk based on my performance in ebay's program. if you're in a related program of any sort, it sure could be legit.

I believe that merchants can send out email to advertisers to try and get them to join the program. Usually it's targetted to those who are earning decent $$ via Cj.

Haven't gotten one from Ebay but have from others, so yes they do soemtimes send out emails to recruit publishers in the network. Sometiems they just send an email, other times they will send an offer to your CJ account for you to accept or reject.

I'm not a member of CJ, so they sent it to the e-mail address on my website. It looks "official," phone number and all. I just found it surprising the CJ does the marketing work for eBay.

A quick search finds that eBay and CJ have been partners since 2001. In fact, just going to eBay's sign up page has CJ plastered all over it... So this looks legit. why is it surprising that eBay would use CJ? Just that a huge multi-billion dollar company like ebay should do its own affiliate marketing? Just curious. Does CJ have a bad rep or something? I'm just starting to look into affiliate programs... so I'm not too clear on this stuff.

A bit slow on the uptake here again but "wrgvt" why wouldn't you want to work with us. I would really like to understand your difficulties so that we can see if we can improve the experience for you and other affiliates.

It probably was a legitimate email from us here at eBay UK we have done a large amount of work to drive extra recruits for the eBay.co.uk affiliate programme.

Because my sites are doing very well with amazon and I don't see how adding eBay to my sites will add to my income.

With the new US eBay revenue share I think you may have a good chance to make more money with eBay.
Using a combination of geotargetting and our affiliate programmes across the majority of eBay countries you should be able to monetise some traffic you couldn't otherwise.

EBay U.S. offers $/ACRU as well, albeit less than before.

I have earned revenue through CJ for every month since mid-2000 in a niche market. I constantly get invitations to join merchant programs that have nothing to do with my market, so I fully believe that merchants try to recruit performing affiliates versus only those with complementary websites.

just while we are on the CJ + Ebay.com subject: Has anyone else noticed that Ebay.com are no longer paying out bid commission? Shame, that was a nice little earner.

Fortunately other Ebay countries still do give commission on bids - at least for now ...
