Hi,

I'm new to this game and have the following two questions:

1. Selecting an Affiliate Network - I am about to embark on the process of selecting an affiliate network, was wondering if anybody had an overview of the pros and cons/costs of the different networks? So far I think Affiliate Window look good?

2. PPC Impact - I currently have Google, Mviva and Overture pay per click campaigns, will i be doubling up if I run both PPC and affiliates? Keep Google and drop the other 2?

Many thanks,

Jan

Maybe, if you get an affiliate that does PPC. But that is not a bad thing. Think about it, if you work with your affiliate, you could have two advertising slots covered, instead of the one you currently have.

I don't understand why merchants ban their affiliates from PPC, especially when the affiliate is doing PPC to their own site and not to the merchant's.

On the surface, it may look like you are competing with yourself, but you are not. Your PPC campaigns probably cost you like 20-30% of your net, but you would probably pay 5-15% to your affiliates. So for less than the original ad cost you, you get a second ad.

On top of that, chances are, your affiliate is probably better at PPC than you are, so they will find more keywords and whatnot which is even better.

Brand keywords are really your only issue, and it is a tricky one so I can't tell you yeah or nay on that one.
