I just signed up with CJ and was browing the links section. Is there a way to create your own link to a specific site and product page instead of using one of the product or promotion specific links provided?

When you're creating links click on the "Show Advanced Options" link and there should be a place to enter your desired destination url.

It just appends a "url=" to the query string. This works for most merchants but check to make sure they have this feature turned on.

Thanks for the response. Can I ask you another question or two?

If I create a link in this manner, do I need to link to a page promoting a product in that category? For example, if I initially clicked on the "get html" link for say, CDs, will I only get credit for a sale by linking to a CD? And does the person I send to that site need to make a purchase then for me to get credit for the sale, or is there a time frame after my having first sent them in which I will still get the credit?

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

Normally a cookie will get dropped with your aff id attached to it. This means that 'normally' you will be credited for any sale from the site. ie if someone follows your cd link and buys a book or something you will still get credit for the sale.

I also just joined CJ and am a bit confused about getting the ads to display. Sorry to piggyback on your thread amjoe.

1. Is this like Adsense where you just drop in the one line script or do you need to insert the code from every link that you choose? That would seem a bit tedious.

2. Can I use a <div> to float the ads over my header image? I tried doing this and nothing shows up for several seconds after the page has loaded. Then, the ad doesn't appear, but a broken image as if the image can't be found. I can mouse over it and I'm sure I could click it, but no image.

Thanks for the help. I've been reading this forum for a few weeks and it has been extremely helpful, especially since I have just launched my first site.

You get the option to "get html" for all the advertisers banners and links. You just need to copy and paste that information into your webpage. You will need to do this for every advert/link which is a bit tedious if you have a lot of products you want to add to your site. CJ do offer datafeeds but you have to pay thru the nose to get them.

As far as floating your banners you should just be able to paste the link code as normal.

Yeah, it looks like it is working now. My account was new so it must've needed a little time to start showing the ads.

Thanks Ska. If someone you directed leaves the website and returns several days later by typing in the URL directly (bypassing your site), would you still get the credit?

No problem azabulivin. I can learn from your questions too.

It depends on the length of the cookie and whether the user clears their cookies or not. Most aff progs use at least a 30 day cookie but some are only 24hrs and some are up to a year.
