I've recently taken on a web-marketing position and am looking at the relative pros and cons of e-mail marketing / affiliate marketing etc.

Anyone offer me any stats / suggestions / opinions about the relative merits or success rates?

Anyone recommend a way for me to get more info fast?

Affiliate marketing can be very effective. Right now CPA is most popular, CPC has a lot of potential for fraud. It won't happen overnight, but your affiliates can be a strong force. 10% of the affiliates drive 90% of the affiliate sales/traffic. You can gain link pop with some affiliate linking code setups.

The best way to get started is to join a merchant/advertiser warehouse like CJ. You get immediate exposure to affiliates with an embedded degree of trust. It is not cheap, however. If this is not an option, you can setup your own in-house program, but it will take time to for it to build.

Check out some of the other threads, like affiliate program design structuring the "right" offer [webmasterworld.com]. Use the drop down box on this forums index page (bottom) to show more threads, or use the forum search function at the top of the page.

As far as email marketing, do you mean starting your own publication, advertising in existing publications, buying optins/optouts, or mass solicitations?
