Just learning about affiliate marketing

On my site I have a reasonable amount of widget reviews that I have collected over a period of years.

Recently I decided to make them more useful by linking to a site you can buy that particular widget from. I didn't enter into any program, just linked to the particular page.

As I have been approached by another site before about joining their affiliate program, I decided to update my links to their site. I am not really that interested in making money at this stage (they won't even send a cheque out if it is not over a certain amount.) I just want to see how it goes and if it is worth doing the same thing on other parts of my site.
