Hello,

One of our clients has his site running on a dedicated server at aplus.net and when a new user signs-up for an account they need to get a confirmation email.

However AOL users never get this one as it seems the IP address was black listed for some reason (I mean the site has just started and hasn't been doing any email campaigns so to speak and certainly not spamming, we're not sure this is the reason but as everybody else is getting email fine we supposed this was the origin of the problem.

Could anyone suggest a way out of this problem? We'd really appreciate any input!

Thank you,
AndieR

Check to see whether the server IP address is blacklisted (search Google for "RBL"). The blacklists work by IP, not domain name, so may be blacklisted from a previous user.

If it is on a list, ask the server host to provide a new IP. Ask them what the new IP will be and check it before accepting it! Changing the IP will involve a nameserver update, so try to overlap the IPs (use both for a while) to avoid any downtime.

It's common practice for webhosts to recycle blacklisted IP's to the next unsuspecting customer.

If the webhost won't provide a clean IP, find a new webhost.
