Which is best?

I am adding a "reccomended products" page to my content site and was wondering which way might be the best. (As far as search engines and sales go)
(1)The product page would have a brief description of each product with a link going to a dedicated page that I create for that specific product.
(2) The product page would have a brief description of the product and then a link directly to the merchant's site. (so this would put several products on one page which I suspect might dilute the engine's view of the page)
The only reason I think number one would be the best choice is that the individual product pages I create will get a better listing in the engines...but this is new to me and I have no idea.
Traffic is relatively low at this point but I am adding a great deal of my own content and expect it to grow. My content also blends affiliate text links in where appropriate. I guess a third option might be
(3) don't add a product page.
I would appreciate any thoughts or discussion around these topics.
Thanks.

Why not do both? Have your product page with the brief description of the product and a link to the merchant (is this an affiliate-type set-up?). Then for each product have a "for more information" or "to read more about" link going to your dedicated page. Some people may be ready to buy right away, others might want to see more content before they decide.

Beagle,
That is a great idea. It is amazing how I painfully overlook the obvious..especially with my own work.
Thank you,
