I'm running ads for one affilate merchant for which I average about $1 a click. The problem is, I have to spend between 50 to 75 cents a click to get that click with Adwords, and I can only get a few clicks a day.

By the way, there are lots of lists of "High-paying" Adsense words, have anyone bought them or it's just a waste of money?
Of course, it's not easy to get them to display on your pages if your site is not relevant, but I'm sure you could tweak a bunch of pages if you own a portal and increase your earnings a lot.

I wouldn't pay for such a list. There are some available free online (of course, they might not be good lists). There were at least a couple of links posted in the AdSense forum recently.
