Now that I'm making a pretty good income from Adsense + AM, I'm wanting to do some traveling, maybe put my stuff in storage and disappear for months at a time. I'm in the US now and will probably start here but would like to visit other countries eventually, too.

Is anyone out there running their AM business from the road? Do you have any advice? Do you have family cash your checks while you're gone? I have a laptop and will get a T-Mobile Hot Spot account or some such, but what else do I need?

I've been to Warsaw in winter, and Krakow in August, and both were good (I like snow). Summers in Europe are generally nice for just about everything.

Note to all - Europe - esp. Eastern Europe - was and is late to discover air conditioning. Summer rooms - and some trains - can get a bit warm.

Well, i have to agree this topic is inspiring but earning $5 or less dollar per day will not get me on the road trip.

Honestly, i am very jealous of you guys. :>

1) find a niche that can get you $1/day
2) create 300 sites like that

I've long ago set $333 per day revenue as a general goal... works to ten grand per month before taxes. So, $444 daily would give some overhead for taxes. It gets more complicated after factoring in expenses, ads (to get traffic to the site(s)), etc. So, it could be $500 per day in revenue to allow an after-tax income equivalent to $100,000 per year (US).

In order to hit the road often, hopefully the business model is as simple as possible, not requiring a lot of (1) Paperwork or receipt-tracking (2) Timely Support/Live Support/Handholding (3) Brain Cells.

Joking on #3, except I do prefer to waste the brain cells figuring out the meaning of life, as opposing to figuring out the meaning of a server error or customer request for a refund ;-)

I am on the road with this business, more times than not in the last year.

We upgraded to new laptops, and began developing a support network for while we are on the road. If you look around my network, you will see what I mean, and see where I have been. Hotels, resaurants, shopping malls...one site was built just for my quick access to info where we go when we get there, what to enjoy, reservations, menus...the works. I put Adsense ads on it, and it is one of my top revenue sources. That worked out nicely.

So, if my laptops go down, I pull out the hard copy of where I can get online, and then access my own sites for info. But...all the laptops would have to go down, loose access...something horrific before I use that backup plan. But, it is a backup plan, because you never know.

What we did was this. Research. I have a book of places I can get scotty to beam up my work from just about anywhere in the U.S.

I know where the best, yet cheapest motels are, that have fast access.

I know where the best motels are that have a breath taking view, and fast access, I have them bookmarked, and can get a reservation online in a few seconds. If the laptop is down.

I have backup plan B...the hardcopy directory I created with all the phone numbers and addresses, complete with three maps of each location, at different zoom levels, to lead me to any place in my directory, and places I can access another computer. I have over 20,000 locations in my hardcopy, for free internet access, with phone numbers, addresses, and maps. It is safe to say, we are connected...anywhere.

I know where the hottest jacuzzi are.

I know where the best jazz clubs are, and can easily find them.

I know where the high crime zones are, and they are marked, in each state and city, so I can avoid them.

I know where the best comedy clubs, and how to get advance passes online for the shows.

I know where the best alternative clubs are, and can get booked into them in advance, so I don't have to wait in line. (50 years old in line don't get in, ever, trust me... you need a pass)

I know the phone numbers and addresses of places I can get beamed up, that you would never dream of, and I was up MANY nights, around the clock, compiling that list. It is my bible.

I have EFT for all my income, except those backward accounts at Linkshare.

I file my taxes online.

I find doctors, pharmacys, and hospitals online. They are bookmarked.

I pay all my bills online, which are few, because I own everything outright from house, to my cars, and everything in between.

Because my main home is paid for, I can leave my things there, turn on the security system, and pay my electric bill with an advance lump sum. The phone bill and cable I pay online. I don't cancel them, they are a business expense, and when I come home, in the middle of the night, on a Friday night, they are ready to use. The home is in a state that has no income tax, and one of the lowest property tax rates in the free world.

I keep the home. It is my backup plan C incase the eworld explodes, or I become crippled and lame and need to park myself in front of a television for the rest of my life watching Leave It To Beaver (ugh..thinking not)

I have several bank accounts, and a pocket full of debit cards and credit cards, and can transfer money online between any of them, and have it to use in another account in two business days.

I have a PO Box at home.

I have a PO Box at a mail box etc business, and I can forward all my usps mail there when I am gone, and they will bundle it and send it to me, when I need it.

I have two cell phones.

If there are two of you, you need 4 laptops. You can't just sip pina coladas all day, you have to work while you sip your java in the morning. You have to keep things fresh. It helps to be able to work quickly and two laptops each accomplish that.

I have a boat, and can stay there anywhere in North America, when rooms are hard to find, or at a premium price. It is a live aboard, and I can access the internet from most marina slips, or get close to a ton of places near shore, and catch a wi-fi whiff. Because I have a year around membership at a Marina, I have free 24 hours docking at tons of other marinas. The industry as a whole, is pretty good at letting you call ahead for a position at a temporary dock, and stay overnight, free of charge. So, we can dress for the night, dock the boat, scooter into metro, party the night away, and come back to the boat.

Some areas have a much wider range of choices for nightlife and marina life, and can keep you busy seeing different places, for very little fuel, and very little other expenses, other than those hedonistic needs.

Docked at interesting new places, off the boat with the scooters, and back packs hold the laptops, and I am doing tea and crumpets at Star Bucks in Vancover, after a weekend before in the Smokey Mountains, with a balcony right over a babbling creek, and uploading a new page, or a new site.

I have two copies of all original docs, in two seperate places, that I might need in case they get lost or stolen, and...

That...only scratches the surface of the preparations we made to travel while running this business. We have been test driving this plan, because early 2007, it becomes full time. I think we have the bugs worked out already.

I'm sure I have some important work to do. I will let you get your things ready to join me in telecomputer vacationland.
