An article on fool.com about the chance that yahoo might step it up against adsense.

"Niche forums like WebmasterWorld.com are ripe with folks complaining that their AdSense payouts have been diminishing over the years. "

Seems to be a bit of a 'nothing' report really. No new information and he really only seems to rehash the rumours.

I liked the bit about WW being ripe with publishers complaining that revenue has been 'diminishing over the years'. How long has Adsense been going? And for every publisher that complains, I'm sure there are plenty others whose revenue has gone from strength to strength.

It will happen and I cannot wait for the day it does.

Competition will increase my revenue either way : )

Their about page mentions there directives
<to educate, enrich, and amuse individual investors around the world>

If its not meant to be amusing its misreporting effects the way people think, pretty powerful ability the media has, just as a respected mod that might remind someone of adsense tos gets an innapropriate label that sticks and evolves to new metaphors like T.O police or a recent one cheerleaders, what people read sticks with them much of the time unforunatley, accurate or not.
Ity seems like an utter overstatemnt to claim its rife with complaints while there are i think over 250,000 publishers, and i suspect many more complaints or discussions about fluctuations, be found about Adsenses competion.

Since June, 2003, or less than two years ago.

And didn't the writer mean "rife", not "ripe"?

And for every publisher that complains, I'm sure there are plenty others whose revenue has gone from strength to strength.

Are you suggesting that contented publishers don't take the time to join Webmaster World and post messages about how happy they are with their AdSense earnings? :-)

As for whether Yahoo's gonna bite into AdSense, it's safe to assume that Yahoo can take away some of Google's market share. Whether that will bite into Google's revenues will depend on whether Yahoo's market share rises faster than overall growth in the market.

I'm also skeptical about the idea that unhappy AdSense publishers will do better with Yahoo. Why would Yahoo pay a premium for traffic from low-earning AdSense publishers? It's more likely that Yahoo would try to cherry-pick the most profitable sites, topics, and types of content, leaving the remainder to Google and the smaller, less competitive PPC networks.

The bottom feeders who are sharing the .05 cent clicks with Google Adsense will move up with a Yahoo system (as long as they pay approximately the same %) b/c overture's minimum ad is a .10

Time will tell

Overture/Yahoo could lower the minimum to .05 for content pages to lure in more advertisers.

True, or it could use a formula like Google's "smart pricing" to grant advertiser discounts, which is simply another way of lowering the minimum bid for content clicks.

Overture is good if you ask me, the only problem is you need what? 30 million visitors per month to become a publisher?

Definetely reduce this number, and bring a lot of new stuff. Many other "AdSense" alternatives have better software then google, but not enough $$$ to start a revolution.

I think Yahoo will be a very good competitor, and to be honest I cant wait until they go live with this thing.
And as someone said above, it's going to maximize my revenue either way ;)
