Amazon and Half carry a lot of the same stuff, and I am wondering why on earth anyone would be an Amazon affiliate over Half considering Amazon only pays 5%-7% whereas half pays 5-10$ per sale. Am I missing something? Thanks.

I think Amazon links tend to convert quite well, because many people already know and trust them as a company. The higher conversion rate might mean that Amazon links pay better, even if the commission rate is lower.

I've never tried half, but the one day cookie length of Amazon, combined with the higher percentage would prompt me to test.

The biggest factor may very well be the on page conversion when they get to the merchant - people know and trust amazon, and many already have accounts.

Shouldn't cost you too much in PPC to test it out.

Half.com only pays a commission for new customers. How many people do you know who aren't Ebay/Half.com customers?

I did very well on Half.com in Jan/Feb with thier $10 new customer bounty on textbooks.

I use both Amazon and Half.com. Neither have made me big money. What I find though is totally unrelated products being credited to me from Amazon. I think the company is so well known that even though the cookie is short I'm getting credit for "later that day" or "next day" sales that have nothing to do with me.

If all you get from Half is a new customer bounty you may find you get a burst of them when you first join, and then once all the regulars who are going to join have joined, it will drop off.

Apples and oranges--you really can't compare that to Amazon. In my experience, in a book area, Amazon converts MUCH better than any other program. I would much rather get 5% of, say, $500 than 10% of $100. I used to belong to several bookstore programs in addition to Amazon, and I've dropped all of them but two specialty stores--and I saw my income go up when I did, and removed links that weren't doing anything but distracting people.

Try things out.
