Large sites signing up.

We run an in house affiliate program and have received a few sign ups that are very curious. I don't think that I can mention site names (of those signing up), but I will say that one is the top 'PERSONAL FINANCE ADVICE' magazine. The other was a money magazine (smart) that was co founded by Jim Cramer, the other is '..simon' and the last is the a top travel guide site that you would find with 'travel guides best trips'.

On to the issue. Each of these sites have applied to become an affiliate of our site. Kind of unusual based upon their size. The REAL strange thing is that the e-mail addresses used are from 'world sites (.ws) or a .net that is has a nearly identical site design. The sites appear to the almost identical. The sign ups came over a period of about a week.

Anyone have experience with this? I am guessing they are e-mail marketers trying to get an approval with a phony sign up.

Thanks much.

that'd be my guess as well.

If it smells like poop, it's probably poop.

Be very careful. There is a fairly large group out there that does this every month they sign up then towards the
end of the month they generate false clicks and submissions in the hopes that it wil fall through the cracks and they get paid. The first thing we do when we get a signup is phone verfy it that resolves alot of the issues right there.

XY7affiliatenetwork,

Thanks for the feedback. We have also moved to phone verification.

It is kind of funny that these people waste their time. I couldn't imagine what the companies that still have an autmoatic approval are going through.
